Gundagai Anglers Trip to Burrinjuck Dam 4/5th December 2009

Gundagai Anglers Trip to Burrinjuck Dam 4/5th December 2009

21 Gundagai anglers ventured to Burrinjuck Dam for the last club fishing trip for 2009 which coinsided with the cod season opening. Up to Saturday morning there were a few anglers in the running for prizes but their hopes were dashed early Saturday morning when 16 year old Jordan Fields who was deckie for Alan Anderson landed two fantastic cod within 30 mins. First up, he hooked and landed a 100cm cod hotly followed by a 80cm cod. Pictures were taken of these lovely fish and a very happy Jordan (see below) before he let them swim away. I reakon he is still shaking! Jordan caught his fish trolling a spinnerbait and there were reports that he was offered a lot of money for it.

There were four other cod landed over the weekend. Wayne Carthew had a great time, landing three cod on his new rod. His old rod is still somewhere at the bottom of Burrinjuck Dam. The fish were 70cm, 50cm and 45cm. Wayne caught his cod trolling hard bodied lures. A very happy Les Jones landed a nice 87cm cod (bottom pictures) Sunday morning also trolling a spinnerbait.

Club Fishing Trip to Burrinjuck Dam November 2009

About 15 members of the Gundagai Anglers Club ventured to Burrinjuck Dam on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd November. The weather over the weekend was very hot and windy but that didn't stop the anglers from puting in long days on the water. There were only a few fish caught over the weekend, the biggest being a yella weighing 3.7lb that was caught by Dillon Brown from Wagga Wagga. There were also a couple of redfin weighed in but nothing really big.

Besides the fish that were landed there was also a donation. Wayne Carthew dontated a $600 inline rod, chronarch reel, line and lure at Carols Creek. Wayne is offering a reward for anyone that finds his lost gear.

The next Fishing Club trip will be to Burrinjuck Dam for the Cod opening on the 5th and 6th December. Please contact Anthony Harpley or Wayne Carthew if you will be attending.

Lake Somerset and Lake Monduran Fishing Trip

Lake Somerset and Lake Monduran Fishing Trip

From the 26th October till 6th November Peter Stuckey and Daryl Williams travelled to Qld to try their luck at Lake Somerset and Lake Monduran. Peter and Daryl were joined by Peter and Terry Reardon from Yass. For those who have not fished these dams it is well worth a visit.

Lake Somerset is renowned as a Bass dam and is situated about one and a half hours west of Brisbane and 13 hours from Canberra. The dam is also stocked with Golden Perch and Cod. The best Bass landed during the trip was 44cm.

Lake Monduran is situated about 25kms from Gin Gin and about 18 hours from Canberra and is probably the best Barramundi impoundment in QLD. The group ended up landing 15 Barramundi with and average length of 102cm. The smallest fish landed was 95cm and the largest 112cm. All fish were measured and released.

The following pictures are of some of the fish caught and scenery of Lake Somerset and Lake Monduran.
