Murray Cod: Most fishermen found it tough going this weekend despite the weather again being bright sunny and calm, a bit cool in the mornings though. Anthony from Gundagai was one happy fisherman I spoke to with 2 good cod on Sunday measuring 68 & 98 cm, both caught while trolling spinner baits. He followed up with a 65 cm on Monday caught while trolling a Stucky. Most of the other fishos, including myself, were fishless. The fish were caught between Cathedral Rock and Wade Island. There were several boats further up the Bidgee with me that did no good.


The water temperature has continued to drop as the rain comes and the dam slowly rises. The big fish are still about for those willing to put in the time and brave the cool starts.
Yellow Belly: No joy at all this week, There were not too many boats out over the weekend so it was a bit hard to get a good read on how active the Yellow Belly still are. Waterways reported only finding six boats on the water on Sunday morning. The bait fishermen have been the most successful over recent weeks. The fishing during the day tends to be a bit quitter coming off the full moon. Dusk through till dark being the better time for the tougher fishermen who like it cold.

Redfin: Very quite, a couple of small ones was it.

Trout: No reports this week. No one has really been out targeting them as yet. Last year we had a few good fish being picked up by bait fishermen along the park foreshore.

Forecast Weather: Wet weather is forecast until Friday. The weekend should be mostly sunny with very light wind. Temperature to range between 3 & 14 degrees C.

New Moon = June 9th Full Moon = June 23rd Water Temperature: 14-16 deg

Murray Cod: Saturday & Sunday were 2 of the best winter days you could wish for resulting in a lot of cod being caught over the weekend. Daryl, from the Gundagai Anglers, trolled up 10 fish over 1 .5 days. Some of the successful hard body lures being used were 2 stump jumpers, AC Invaders & Orgee Ploughs. A Stucky accounted for a 73 cm fish near Cave Island. The captures were from all over the dam. The bait fisherman even managed to catch a few on grubs & yabbies. Purple, greens & yellows were among the more popular colours. Spinner baits were also producing good numbers on the troll. 73 cm was the biggest report for the week with plenty of legal size fish also being caught.

Yellow Belly: Are still about mostly for the bait fishermen with worms and shrimp being the most used bait. The Scrubby area is still popular with the fishermen. Matt from Picton managed a 47 & 40 cm fish from beside the Main boat ramp with a spinner bait. The fish should be pushing up into the shallows as the slowly rising water covers new ground. Casting the edges should be a good option. The water has risen about 50 cm over the last week or so.

Redfin: Very quite. No reports and none in the fish bins this week.

Trout: No reports this week. The rainbow trout released over the last several years should be getting to eating size and hopefully we should see a few being caught. Time to pull out the Tassie devils and scrub worms.

Silver Perch: No reports this week

Park News: Cottage 18 is now off line and will be demolished over the next month. Termites have taken their toll over the years. Unfortunately with part of the house sitting in the ground it has proved impossible to keep them out for any length of time. Two new large 6 berth air conditioned Jayco cabins are to take its place. They will be operational by September. One of these will be a wheel chair accessible cabin.

The fishing club camped at Tantangara Dam  and fished Satrurday and Sunday morning. A lot of fish were landed but only a few were keepers. Pictures below show some of the fish caught and those anglers who attended.
