Burrendong Fishing Trip

Burrendong Fishing Trip 16-18 October 2009

Some members of the fishing club recently went to Burrendong for a fishing trip. They arrived on Thursday the 16th October. Its about a 4.5 hr drive from Gundagai.

The dam is about the same size as Burrinjuck Dam, and is feed by two rivers, the Cudgegong at the Wall end and the Macquarie at the bottom end. It is currently 25% full with a few mudbanks coming out, reminds you very much of Wyangla Dam. The park has plenty of camping facilities and amenaties. There is a kiosk which also sells fuel.

On the Friday the group trolled the main basin and around the trees in Macquarie arm, the wind came up and forced the group to the top end of the Dam where they trolled into the Cundegong arm to get away from the wind. In the Cudgegong arm, Wayne Carthew caught a nice golden perch on a 30’ AC Slim Invader Magic Night (pic) and Alan Anderson hooked a 10lb golden perch on a 30’ AC 60mm Minnow in Redfin pattern, but unfortunately for Alan it spat the hooks about 10’ from the boat but later Alan ended up hooking a nice cod around 10lb (Pic) which put up a great fight for about 10 minutes and after a great picture was released. Charlie Worsnop hooked and landed a very nice golden perch (pic) and didn't he look happy.

On the Saturday they went out early and trolled the bay next to the boat ramp, the dam wall and then along a long flat mud bank which reminded everyone of Wade Island at Burrinjuck. The group ended up landing 3 golden perch and about 20 redfin up to about a 1lb. These were caught on Stuckeys Burrinjuck specials and AC Slim invaders. Some of the group stayed out and fished till about 9.30pm for very little return. Before leaving Sunday morning some members went out for an early troll for about 3 hours but nothing of any size was landed.

During the time they were there the barometer went from 1025 to 996.
